There are hundreds of charities out there involved in life-changing research, campaigns and assistance.  Just a tiny look into this reveals just how reliant they are on donations from individuals, groups and companies in order to continue their good work.  Even after receiving the London Marathon magazine, around 80% of it is composed of charities advertising what they do and how your fundraising could help them.  So, out of all the options available to me, why did I choose Kidney Research UK?

As with many who raise money for charity, the cause is directly linked to someone in my family.  In September 2009 we celebrated the 10th anniversary of my papa’s kidney transplant, a wonderful day to enjoy the new life he was given.  Although we were able to spend that day with him and enjoy the stories from over the last ten years, it remains important to understand that not everyone has experienced the same outcome.  Though the years were difficult with dialysis in the hospital and at home, the transplant itself and subsequent infections, it has resulted in a fulfilling life for him.

It is this result that every one of the 3 million people in the UK with chronic kidney disease should have.  They should also have the support they require throughout the course of their treatment.  In order to provide this, however, it will take a significant effort.  Whether it be the research that leads to advancements in medical techniques, the highlighting of the issue of kidney disease or personal care of children and families, Kidney Research UK plays an important role.

By supporting Kidney Research UK, a direct impact can be made on those suffering from kidney disease as well as their families.  Hopefully one day this will mean everyone going through kidney disease has the same success as my papa and the families are as lucky as we have been.
